Back-to-school season is here—that magical time of year when children return to the classroom and adults suddenly remember they once had potential.

Remember school? We spent 12 years asking, “When am I ever going to use this?” Well, congratulations: tonight is when. Turns out the Pythagorean theorem, state capitals, Greek mythology, and knowing which Brontë sister wrote what weren’t useless—they were just preparing you to win a $25 bar tab.

Of course, school has changed. Kids today have laptops, smartboards, and the entire accumulated knowledge of humanity in their pockets. We had an overhead projector and a teacher furiously wiping transparency marker off their hand.

And nothing humbled you quite like the first day back. New clothes, fresh notebooks, big ambitions. “This year I’m going to stay organized!” By October, your backpack looked like police had searched it without a warrant.

So tonight, welcome back to school—except there’s beer, nobody’s calling your parents, and the group project finally has teammates you actually chose.
