          Memorial Day

What did one American flag say to the other flag? Nothing, it just waved!

Alright, let's dive into the history of Memorial Day, but don’t worry, I will not make it sound like a history lecture. Now, Memorial Day didn't start as a federal holiday, it started as a "Hey, we should probably clean up those graveyards" kind of day. Post Civil War, the country was looking like a teenager's room after a month-long video game binge. It was a mess!

So, in 1868, General John A. Logan, who was not just a general but also a politician (because why have one stressful job when you can have two?), declared May 30 as Decoration Day. It was a day to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. I mean, who needs a spring cleaning when you can have a spring decorating, right?

Fast forward to 1971, when Congress was like, "Hey, we should make this a federal holiday and also, let's move it to a Monday because we really like long weekends." And voila, Memorial Day as we know it was born! So, remember folks, while you're flipping burgers this Memorial Day, take a moment to remember it started with a spring clean-up.

Arlington National Cemetery used to be a plantation belonging to what Confederate General?

          Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@seattlebartrivia.com if you cannot find an answer to your question here. As questions come up we will add the them here along with answers.

Paying homage. First to the start of baseball games and the other, to the fallible nature of humans.  Or Maybe it's just superstition, we've done it this way for a few years now, tradition?

A few tables at each of the bars can handle larger teams (8+). But for the most part it's easier with 6 or less team members. If you have a large team send someone early, before 6:15pm, to claim a table for the team. The short answer is there is no limit on team size.

To get the best table to fit everyone on the team comfortably arrive by 6:15pm. At Montana and at Harvey's there are only a few tables that can handle larger teams

Both bars have full service bars. Harvey's Tavern has traditional pub food. Montana doesn't have a kitchen so outside food (not drinks) are allowed. See above for a few great suggestions.

Yes. Harvey's Tavern and Montana have always been dog friendly.

Just send us an email info@seattlebartrivia.com or show up at one of the trivia nights and talk to the host.  We're always happy to talk about what we do.

We choose a weekly theme for the online question and the bonus questions. These usually have something to do with a current holiday or event, or anniversary.

Throughout the quiz we ask several bonus questions the correct answer is worth a pint.

Thats a great question. The short answer is that the business was was not doing as well as they hoped. When they were unable to find a buyer for the business, it had been on the market for several years, they decided to simply shut down. Cut their losses.   Will they bounce back? Unknown, but it seems unlikely.

Yes,  we are actively in talks with several other bars in the area to see if we are a good fit. Stay tuned. If you have suggestions or want to know more please reach out to info@seattlebartrivia.com
