Paying homage. First to the start of baseball games and the other. secondly to the fallible nature of humans. Or Maybe it's just superstition, we've done it this way for a few years now, tradition?
A few tables at each of the bars can handle larger teams (8+). But for the most part it's easier with 6 or less team members. If you have a large team send someone early, before 6:15pm, to claim a table for the team. The short answer is there is no limit on team size.
To get the best table to fit everyone on the team comfortably arrive by 6:15pm. At Montana and sometimes Sam's by 6:45pm all the tables are likely to be claimed.
Both bars have full service bars. Sam's Tavern has great burgers and traditional pub food. Montana doesn't have a kitchen so outside food (not drinks) are allowed. See above for a few great suggestions.

The one day a year where we can all collectively pretend that our caffeine addiction is totally normal and not at all a cry for help. It's a day where we celebrate the magical bean juice that somehow manages to turn us from grumpy zombies into semi-functional members of society.
From fancy lattes to basic black coffee, National Coffee Day is a time for us to raise our mugs and toast to the beverage that fuels our procrastination and powers our late-night study sessions. It's the day when we can justify spending $6 on a fancy latte because, hey, it's a national holiday, right?
So, here's to National Coffee Day: a time to appreciate the bitter brew that keeps us going through early morning classes and late-night Netflix binges. It's a day to honor the baristas who put up with our complicated orders and the coffee shops that serve as our second homes.
Because when it comes to coffee, the only thing we can all agree on is that no amount of pumpkin spice can mask the fact that we're all just here for the caffeine buzz. Cheers to that!
Online Question:
What US state is home to the majority of the US production of coffee beans?
